SMITH DRAFT HORSE FARM

In 2023, we had the pleasure of meeting Megan and Pat Smith during a presentation on the historical and current significance of working horses in America. At that time, Megan was leading the Semper Fidelis GFWC and later took on the role of Selectman for our town in Canaan, ME. During a spring visit to our farm, Megan and her children were introduced to two special horses, Rock and Roll. Pat soon joined them, and after a memorable summer, we decided to entrust Rock and Roll to their care. These horses are now cherished members of the Smiths' homestead, where they also keep bunnies, chickens, ducks, and dogs. The family plans to expand their animal family by building a new barn.

The Smiths are also beekeepers, producing delicious honey with their Russian and Italian bee colonies—a venture they aim to expand this year.

Horses like Luke and Thunder share a history with Rock and Roll as former carriage horses in Philadelphia, where Rock and Roll served as official burial horses for the Philadelphia Police Dept. during the pandemic, laying to rest over 60 individuals within three months.

Rock and Roll have found the perfect retirement home with the Smith family, bringing joy and a dream childhood to their children, Crew and Natalie. Their presence on the farm completes a harmonious and nurturing environment.

The Smiths have offered their honey for us to sell as a way of taking care of our herd!
